Town Council Meeting and Proposal Report

The Pine Bluffs Town Council met last night (October 5) and Gateway’s Needy Animals was on the agenda.  We were number six on the agenda list and listened as the council talked about the major projects to be going on in the near future.  This includes the deepening of a water well, upgrades to the water system in-town, sewer upgrades, etc.

When it came our turn, our proposal was before the council and Becky Martinez spoke for the group.  The council and mayor had questions about the proposal itself and in the end, the council applauded our work and enthusiasm, but could not approve any loan to fund our new building needs.

This was, frankly, as we expected.  It never hurts to try, though.

Our proposal’s highlights included:

  • A funding request for the property plus renovations and upgrades (totaling $100,000)
  • Optional funding request for the property only ($45,000)
  • Details of the needed repairs, upgrades, etc. with estimates and inspection notes.
  • Details regarding why the Town would benefit from the rescue and shelter expansion.

Overall, the membership and Board of Gateway’s Needy Animals that attended the meeting were pleased with the council’s attention to detail, their consideration of our proposal, and the helpful comments given by the Council and Mayor.

Proceeding from here, Gateway’s is continuing work towards securing grants from various sources.  Most of those are pending our receipt of 501(3)c approval from the IRS, which is in no hurry to get it back to us.

Gateway’s Needy Animals would like to sincerely thank the Town of Pine Bluffs and the Council and Mayor for their support and help.
