127 Rescued Cats and Their Fates

Yesterday’s Tribune-Eagle had a story about what’s happened to the 127 cats that were rescued from a couple’s home last month. The cats were surrendered to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter. Of those 127 cats, 55 have been euthanized, 13 are available for adoption, two died on the way to the shelter due to health problems, and six more have gone into surgery.
A handful (eight so far) have been adopted by new owners, others are being watched for medical reasons, and more will likely be taken by some local shelters.
The Cheyenne Animal Shelter is part of the Humane Society network and, thus, is not a no-kill shelter. Of the 55 killed, most were, according to shelter employees, because they were “too wild.” More will be euthanized if something isn’t done for them.

If you know anyone in the area who is looking for a good barn cat, please let them know that the shelter in Cheyenne has several that need rescuing.
