I got pulled over for speeding this morning. When the cop walked up to my window, I thought for sure I would be able to talk my way out of it. Then he looked at my dog in the back seat…

New Officers Elected
At our monthly meeting on Saturday, October 17, 2009 Gateway’s Needy Animals elected new officers for the coming year. Because the separate offices of Secretary and Treasurer were creating redundant paperwork and were, in fact, being fulfilled by one person due to Sue Hemmings having moved, it was decided to combine those offices together to save workload and paperwork. The office of Vice President, which is provided for in the charter/articles and policies, was opened in order to continue with a 3-position Board of Directors.
During nominations and voting, Becky Martinez was retained as Gateway’s President. Rebecca Brayton, a founding member of the group, was elected as Vice President. Maureen Crea was retained as Secretary-Treasurer, though she faced stiff competition from Heidi Sutherland (who will be born in February).
Aaron Turpen will be retained as Director of Operations, which is a non-elected position.
In related business, updated information from the Internal Revenue Service and the Wyoming Secretary of State about Gateway’s Needy Animal’s Incorporation and 501(3)c status was given. The IRS had small changes required for our articles, which have now been complete and are on the desk of the Sec. State in Wyoming. Those change requirements, however, have meant a further delay in getting our charitable status, which we now expect to receive before our next meeting on November 21st.
Currently, funding at Gateway’s Needy Animals is very low. We are facing winter with 18 cats in our care and may be receiving 10 puppies in the next month as well. Currently, with no adequate facility in which to house these animals, we are making do with volunteer boarding and foster care. We are in need of quality cat food, cat litter, and related items, especially.
If you would like to talk to us or find out how you can help, visit us at the upcoming Spaghetti Carnival in Pine Bluffs on the 29th! Or write to us at Gateways Needy Animals, PO Box 432, Pine Bluffs, WY 82082. We will have a PayPal link for accepting online donations as soon as we have received our approval for 501(3)c status.
Thank you for all of your support!
